U.S. Food Imports<\/h1>\n
\n\nThe U.S. Food Imports data product is an annual statistical summary of the value and quantity of food imports entering the United States. U.S. consumers demand variety, quality, and convenience in the foods they consume. As American consumers become more affluent and ethnically diverse, their food baskets increasingly reflect a greater share of tropical products, spices, and imported gourmet foods. Seasonal and climatic factors also influence U.S. food imports, particularly for popular fruits, vegetables, and tropical products such as cocoa and coffee. In addition, a growing share of U.S. imports is linked to U.S.-based agricultural processing industries carrying out certain processing steps abroad and importing products from foreign affiliates at different stages of processing. This dataset provides import values for edible products (food and beverages) entering U.S. ports, as well as the shipment origins of those products. The data are sourced from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau. Food and beverage import values are compiled by calendar year into food groups corresponding to either major products or levels of processing. Harmonized System (HS) codes and related products are described in detail in the data product file. To make it possible to track long-term growth patterns, at least 20 years of annual data are included.\n\n<\/div>\n
